Filming & Privacy Policy

HonkyTonkBasement is dedicated to documenting and celebrating Portland's live music, honky-tonk, and dance community through photography and video.

Our coverage includes musicians, dancers, and audiences at publicly accessible venues and events. Individuals may appear incidentally in crowd shots, dance floor footage, and other event documentation.

Filming & Public Photography

Under Oregon law, photographing or filming individuals in places where they have no reasonable expectation of privacy is generally permitted, subject to applicable restrictions.

Oregon law does not generally require individual permission from everyone appearing incidentally in a crowd photograph or video intended for ordinary event coverage.

The Oregon Supreme Court's decision in Anderson v. Fisher Broadcasting Co. (1986) addresses privacy and the use of individuals' likenesses in published footage, recognizing important distinctions between incidental appearances, privacy interests, and commercial appropriation.

Recording audio, filming on private property, and certain commercial uses may be subject to additional legal requirements.

Our Content & Removal Policy

  • Public event coverage: We generally do not seek individual permission from everyone appearing in crowd footage or event photography.

  • Removal requests: We respect individual privacy concerns but do not routinely remove content solely because someone appears incidentally in a group shot.

  • Special circumstances: Requests involving personal safety, harassment, minors, or significant privacy concerns will be considered individually.

  • Published content: Once published, content generally remains available as part of our ongoing documentation of Portland's music and dance community. We do not routinely edit, archive, or remove posts in response to individual preferences.

Our Commitment

HonkyTonkBasement aims to celebrate and preserve Portland's vibrant music and dance culture while treating the people who make it possible with respect.

We welcome questions or concerns regarding our coverage through Instagram or our website. All requests will be considered respectfully, consistent with applicable law and our editorial policies.
