Tonight App — Privacy Policy

Effective October 2, 2026

Tonight is a free, ad-free app for finding live country and honky-tonk shows, made by Honkytonk Basement in Portland, Oregon. It has no accounts: no sign-up, no login, no email, no phone number. This page explains exactly what the app stores and who can see it.

WHAT THE APP STORES

Device ID — A random ID created on your phone the first time you open Tonight. It is not your Apple ID, Google account, or an advertising ID, and it isn't tied to your name or email. Everything below is linked to this ID.

"I'm Going" picks — When you tap I'm Going, your device ID is recorded against that show. The public only ever sees a total count. Friends you've added can see your picks, and your nickname appears on a show's "who's going" list only if you turn that option on.

Nickname, handle, and profile photo (all optional) — A name you choose for friends to see, a 4-digit code so friends can find you, and a photo if you add one. Visible only to friends you've added.

Friend connections — Created only when you and another person exchange codes or accept a request. You can remove a friend at any time.

Show ratings — Boot ratings you give a show or band. Shown to others only as an average.

The Party Line chat — Messages, photos, and short videos you post in your city's chat are visible to everyone using Tonight in that city for 48 hours, then hidden. You appear as an anonymous "Boot Scooter #" handle unless you set a chat nickname. Any message can be reported; a report hides it right away until a moderator reviews it, and senders who break the rules can be blocked.

Live show photos and videos — Photos or short videos you post from a show you've marked yourself going to are visible to other users only while that show is live. Reports work the same way as in the chat.

Push notification token — Used only to send notifications you've allowed, such as a friend picking a show or new Party Line messages. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your phone's settings.

WHAT TONIGHT NEVER COLLECTS

- Your location. Tonight never asks for GPS or location access. The map shows where venues are, never where you are.

- Your contacts, browsing history, or the contents of your calendar.

- Any payment or financial information (see the tip link below).

- Advertising IDs. Tonight has no ads and no ad tracking.

PERMISSIONS, IF YOU USE THEM

- Camera: to scan a friend's QR code, and to take photos or videos you choose to post.

- Microphone: to record sound with a video you choose to post. Nothing is recorded unless you start a recording yourself.

- Photos: Tonight uses your phone's built-in photo picker, which shares only the exact photo or video you select. The app never sees the rest of your library.

- Calendar (iPhone): write-only, to add your own picks to your calendar. Tonight can't read your existing events.

THE "TIP THE CREATOR" LINK

Tonight is made by one person, for free. The optional ‚òï tip link opens Venmo, a separate app or website. Tonight never sees, requests, stores, or processes any payment information, and nothing in the app is unlocked or changed by tipping.

WHO WE SHARE DATA WITH

Tonight does not sell your data or use it for advertising. It relies on these services to run:

- Supabase: stores the app's data.

- Apple Push Notification service and Firebase Cloud Messaging: deliver notifications.

- Google Maps (Android app only): displays the map.

- Venmo: only if you choose to use the tip link.

DELETING YOUR DATA

Open Friends and tap "Erase my data" to immediately delete your picks, ratings, friends, nickname, photos, and chat history from our servers. Deleting the app alone only removes the data stored on your phone.

CHILDREN

Tonight is not directed at children under 13 and doesn't knowingly collect information from them.

CHANGES

If this policy changes in a way that affects what's collected or how it's used, we'll update the effective date at the top of this page.
